Federally Convicted PA Bank Robber Killed In Domestic Dispute: DA (Update)

A federally convicted bank robber who was awaiting trial in multiple new cases was fatally stabbed in a domestic dispute in Lancaster, authorities announced on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Matthew Hill, 40, was found dead in the kitchen of a home on the first block of West Farnum Street at 9:49 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, with evidence of "sharp-force trauma," the Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni previously said.

The coroner's office was originally called to the home at 9:10 a.m. to respond to a cardiac arrest.

Hill’s body was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for further examination, and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday, Jan. 27, after which his cause of death was revealed to be a stab wound to the chest and the manner was ruled a homicide.

The Lancaster County District Attorney's office confirmed that Hill was stabbed during a domestic incident in a release on Wednesday, Jan 29. Authorities did not release additional details but emphasized that there is no threat to the public.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be released as it progresses, DA concluded.

Hill, who was released from federal prison in June 2024 after serving a sentence for the armed bank robbery of National Penn Bank in Cumru Township, Berks County on Nov. 7, 2013, faced new charges for theft and driving under the influence, court records show.

Hill’s death occurred the day after a major bank robbery in Lancaster City on Jan. 24, by a machete-wielding man who was shot dead by police. There is no clear connection between Hill and that robbery. Click here to read our full report on that case.
